The Ostrobram Icon of
the Mother of God is known for its numerous miracles and is considered a powerful
intercessor from all evil. The Virgin Mary is depicted in a rare iconographic
type - without the Infant in her arms. She appears at the moment of the
Annunciation, humbly bowing her head with her arms crossed on her chest. Her
head is adorned with a majestic double crown and a halo in the form of long
sharp rays of the sun, and under Her is a large golden crescent.
