The icon of Saint
Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra of Lycia, the Wonderworker is one of the most
revered and warmest images in the entire Christian world. Saint Nicholas is
depicted in magnificent bishop's vestments and a festive mitre decorated with a
small icon. With his right hand he blesses the worshipers, and in his left he
holds the closed Holy Gospel with a rich scroll. In the background in the
clouds are depicted the Savior with the Gospel and the Most Holy Theotokos with
an omophorion, reproducing the famous miracle of the Council of Nicaea.
