At the center of the *plashchanytsia* (shroud) is a detailed icon depicting
the Dormition: the Most Holy Theotokos on her funeral bier, the Savior holding
her pure soul in the form of an infant, and heavenly angels standing in
attendance. The canonical troparion of the feast is embroidered in Ukrainian
around the perimeter of the central icon. The velvet field is elegantly adorned
with a rich floral pattern of white lilies and golden figures of angels in the
corners. The edges are finished with a thick gold fringe. This is a magnificent
piece of liturgical furnishing used during services for the Feast of the
Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.
